Music Blog – In the Beginning – Blog post 1

In the beginning…

A blog? Really? That’s what my teenager would have to say about this new endeavor. And I have to say, I agree whole-heartedly. But no less, here we go…

Since I don’t really know what I want to write about or, more importantly, what you want to read about, I will tell you what I won’t write about:

• contemporary versus traditional
• clapping in worship
• pop music as congregational music
• worship wars
• whether or not the Day of Judgment will be May 22.

I have definite opinions on these topics and so many more, but I don’t feel quite right getting to give you my two-cents and then waiting, and wondering, maybe even worrying about who may respond – or even worse, who won’t. If you want conversations about these and other nameless topics then you’ll have to call me up and we’ll meet for coffee (mochas, I don’t drink coffee plain) and we’ll dialogue. You’ll give me your opinions and I’ll listen and then you’ll listen as I give you my opinions and we’ll work through our differences together and maybe appreciate each other just a bit more.

It’s amazing what writing one paragraph makes you think about. In writing one thing I thought of some things I might write about:

• Psalms for today
• really cool people I encounter here at church and in the world-church
• really cool music I hear
• really cool things I read
• and hopefully things that will lift your heart, and open your eyes and hands to all of God’s good gifts.

Leave a comment if you like, but I do have some editorial control so that negativity does not prevail.

One last thing: I won’t write every day. My life is full of many different activities and people and I just won’t have time, energy or focus to share that often. I’m just sayin’.
