…was the Word, and the Word was with God…

I’ve recently had an opportunity to spend three weeks living in and out of a suitcase. Moving from city to city for continuing education opportunities – some with my family, some on my own – I’ve grown accustomed to looking for the Bible in the room. It used to be in the bedside table. Now it’s often in the desk drawer hidden.

We often bring with us on trips: books, magazines, newspapers and other items that we don’t have time to read during our everyday life. And yet, where does scripture fit into our lives?

I opened the Bible while I was in one of my various rooms and discovered that I hadn’t read Psalm 145 lately. I like to read through the Psalms often throughout the year – they are our first book of songs, after all. And I discovered how often the word ‘all’ is found in this song and how we all are called into God’s infinite mercy and grace in all the parts of our lives.

As I continue the move searching and seeking out music for the next year at St. Mark, I am invited into the opportunity to hear the Word – even in the silence of a hotel room. Peace be with you in your summer encounters and opportunities.
