On this 15th Sunday after Pentacost, Pastor Eric gave US a new way to think about today’s parable…”the last is first and the first is last”. There is no we and them. Only US.
Some workers complained that those who toiled only an hour were paid equal to those who worked all day. But the story is not about work; in this text everybody works. It is also not about being paid; everyone gets paid equally. It is about God’s grace raining down on all of US. And because of God’s generous gift of grace, we are encouraged to give to others what we have been blessed with. And He will, in turn, give us all we need. God’s grace and abundance will continue to rain down upon US.
