We are broken, then beautiful.

On this third Sunday after Pentecost, the Gospel and Pastor Beth’s sermon were all about miracles. These were healing miracles performed by Jesus, and through prayer, by Elijah.  They took those who were broken, ill, no longer breathing, and they gave them life and health.

Jesus knows where we are vulnerable and sees our brokenness. And like an artist or a craftsman, he reaches in for our broken pieces and shattered chards and creates something beautiful.

Pastor Beth shared a story about her friend who became involved with pique assiette mosaic. Her family’s precious china was crushed during a move and in order to preserve it she used the broken pieces to create many wonderful mosaics.

In pique assiette mosaic art, “found objects and everyday items” are used as its material. Doesn’t this sound familiar? Jesus finds us. He salvages our everyday cracked, chipped selves. And he makes us beautiful.
