3 Is A Magic Number

On this Trinity Sunday, Pastor Eric began his message with Children’s time by showing the kids (and us big kids) a video featuring the number 3. Several of the kids walked back to their seats repeating, “3 is a magic number, 3 is a magic number!”

Our entire service was filled with the triune God. Our Gospel from Matthew 28 shows Jesus commanding his disciples to go out and “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. In our second reading from 2 Corinthians 13, Paul writes to the Corinthians about Christian fellowship being grounded in the triune harmony of  God’s love, Christ’s grace and the Spirit’s partnership.

The Nicene Creed, and the version created by our Conformation Class of 2017, describes the three in one: God as the Almighty Creator, Jesus the holy son of God, and the Holy Spirit who inspires us. And our Hymn of the Day had us singing, “Come join the dance of Trinity, before all worlds begun, the interweaving of the Three, the Father, Spirit, Son.”

The message for the day reminds us that “the Trinity expresses the heart of our faith: we have experienced the God of creation made known in Jesus Christ and with us always through the Holy Spirit”. 3 really is a magic number!
