Magic Number 14

The St. Mark Championship Trophy-winning Intergenerational Softball Team is back on track, turning their 7/8/16 double-header into a double-sweep! Game scores were 14-1 and 14-2.

The roster was at a deficit with the U-G family (4 Team Members), the M family (2 Team Members and Head Coach) on vacation, Joe B also out of town and Brad K on a work conflict. With that many absences, team members on the injured reserve list were called up. And, when the safety of those injured players is at stake, substitute runners are employed. So, Trevor S, Dave E, Amanda C and Krista J got plenty of base-running time. Dave E ran the bags on his own hits 5 times, but he scored many, many more runs having traveled the bases in place of injured teammates! Fans were at the ready to go for oxygen, but Dave made it through like a trooper. It helped to have his two-year old daughter cheering for him each time he passed the bleachers along the third base line.

The father/son combo of Terry and Trevor S shined especially bright tonight. Terry brought down several fly balls in Center Field and Trevor, at Third Base, kept the opponents’ grounders from leaving the infield. Their speed in running the bases helped the score climb.  Terry hit a triple, Trevor had a double, and each connected with base hits which advanced other teammates.

Short Stop Kevin R hit a “to the wall” home run, even after he had earlier been hit in the head with a throw to second. He was safe but his head continued to hurt throughout the game. Be careful Team, it can be dangerous out there!

All players were important contributors… as is the case with any great team. And St. Mark IS A GREAT TEAM!

Next week’s game is set for 7:10 pm, July 15, Field #4 at the RAC. We’ll see you there!
