In today’s gospel, Peter asks Jesus to explain a parable that had offended the Pharisees. Jesus tells his followers that faith is about the heart and not about the rituals that we do.
As Jesus is explaining this parable, a woman, a marginal person in their society, approaches Jesus in a loud voice begging that her daughter, who is possessed by demons, be healed.
Jesus ignores her pleas until she says that ‘even dogs get to eat the crumbs from their master’s table’ and then Jesus tells her ‘Woman, great is your faith!’ and her daughter was healed instantly.
Pastor Eric reiterates that faith is not that we will be with God some day but that God will be with us.
God’s mercy is for all of us every day.
