Remember the Lamp Oil

In today’s Gospel reading, Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus uses lamp oil in his parable about readiness. Citing the wise bridesmaids who remembered to bring oil for their lamps to the wedding, Jesus reminds us to always be ready for his second coming and the invitation to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Pastor Eric used a compass to illustrate the importance of locating “true north”. By identifying the path to true north, we find our way to God. Once we see where we need to go, it is just a matter of making a few adjustments and we are back on the right path. And each time we lose our way, God is always there, welcoming us back. Time after time, God’s grace encourages us and leads us; “a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”.
