Be the Salt and the Light

Today’s Gospel reading, which includes the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:13-20), shows Jesus encouraging his followers to be the” salt of the earth” and the “light of the world”.  What does it mean to be the salt of the earth? As salt flavors our food, God flavors us with His grace and forgiveness. And how do we flavor others? With love. And by giving them that same grace and forgiveness that God gives us. Pastor Eric reminded us, everything tastes better and deeper with the flavor of Jesus’s love.

Jesus is the light of the world and his light is within each of us. He calls us to let the light of our good works shine before others. When we think about our baptism, we are reminded that we are blessed with the light of Christ and sent out to shine!
