St. Mark Community Garden June 17, 2011

First “Feed ‘n’ Weed” successful!

A small but mighty crew gathered Wednesday evening for a tasty potluck and some serious weeding and potato hilling.  The weather turned out to be quite nice even though the forecast was for rain.

Fourteen of the 20 rows are now hilled and weeded.   Church members Jim, Jan, Brent, Zach, Gail, Pastor Linda (she did the dishes from the potluck for us!), and community members Melora, Jason, son Noah, Olga with grandchildren Ianna and Joey, and Jessie were the mighty team.

New water line for St. Mark Community GardenThe water line is now complete thank to Tom F, Frank K, Lloyd S, and others.  Bob B. has hooked up the potato and raised bed irrigation and all are now automatic and on timers.   The hose for the garden no longer goes across the parking lot but is connected to a hose bib right in  back of the beds!  In fact there are two hose bibs every 50 feet along the garden so as we move our garden patch or expand, we have plenty of water.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to stroll through the raised beds please do so!  The SMOGS put down wood chips around all the new beds so you can walk out there without getting muddy feet!  They are getting more and more beautiful all the time!

We also have BLOOMS on our snow peas and a few of our potatoes!
