Jesus Summons Us. Sermon Summary for 9/22

Summons. The dictionary defines summons as “to authoritatively and urgently be called upon to be present”. The Greek translation is, “to remind privately”. In his sermon, Pastor Eric used parables from Luke to illustrate the message that Jesus teaches us, more so convinces us, to follow him. The business owner summons his dishonest manager; the dishonest manager summons his clients.  Another parable shows Jesus summoning Levi the Tax Collector to sell everything and follow Him. In other words, we cannot serve wealth and serve the Lord.

So what does it mean to you to be summoned to follow Jesus?  Our Hymn of the Day, “Will You Come and Follow Me” emphasized Jesus’ call to us. Pastor Eric used the song’s verses for further illustration, and invited us to stand and sing the phrase or verse that most resonated with us personally being summoned to follow Jesus. So, listen to the sermon by clicking the link below, and reaffirm just how Jesus is speaking to your heart, “reminding you privately” to follow Him.
