St. Mark Community Garden Coming Alive in 2015

The 2015 growing season at the St. Mark Community Garden has commenced.  The garden is starting to look absolutely beautiful!  Thanks to our new garden intern, Grace, and Haldor, the potatoes are weeded and hilled, thanks to the volunteers at our two work parties, most everything is weeded and looking wonderful.

We are growing 10 rows of potatoes and 10 rows of carrots as requested by the Thurston County Food Bank.  Gary D. has graciously taken 1/2 the garden again this year and is planting Beans, Squash and Corn – and other things!

The Mountain View Elementary kids have been here and have planted the following:

  • Kindergarten – pumpkins – in back of the central garden
  • 1st Grade – Broccoli
  • 2nd Grade – Cabbage
  • 3rd Grade – Beets and Onions
  • 4th grade – Green beans, Peppers, Tomatoes
  • 5th grade – Kale, Lettuce

All produce from the BIG garden is for the Thurston County Food Bank.  The raised beds are for individuals that have adopted the beds.  The majority of the beds have been adopted by community members (versus church members).

We will start Wednesday evening gleanings soon so watch the Grapeseed for the dates and times.
