Turn Back with Thanks

The Gospel reading for today, Luke 17:11-19, portrays Jesus cleansing ten lepers and only one returning to give thanks. This one, a Samaritan, became a model for what it looks like to praise and worship God.

Everyone needs mercy and healing at one time or another. In his sermon, Pastor Eric reminded us that when we have received grace, mercy or forgiveness from God, we can’t NOT share it with others. That is our way of turning back towards God and offering Him our thanks. Responding with generosity to the needs of others is the divine bi-product of being made clean by the body and blood of Christ.
