A God of Second Chances

The Gospel for the day, Luke 13:1-9, holds the parable of the fig tree saved one more year by the gardener. After bearing no fruit for three years, the landowner was ready to “Cut it down!” But the patient gardener urged the landowner to wait another year, and see what his care and attention may bring. The gardener was willing to give the fig tree a second chance.

The illustration reminds us that we have a God of second chances. We are vulnerable and often do not “bear the fruit” God would like to see. But He offers whatever it takes for us to to grow, then patiently waits for us to flourish. Pastor Beth asked us to offer that same patience and love to one another, and to always give love a second chance.
